You’ve done your homework and found the car of your dreams. It’s a late-model vehicle that fits all your needs, and it’s in great shape. However, now comes the most important part of checking out used cars for sale, the test drive. Here are some helpful tips for getting the most from your test drive experience.
Start with an Open Mind
It’s important to clear your mind before you test drive a car. For example, if you fall in love with that shiny red convertible, it can make you blind to the fact that it doesn’t give you a smooth ride and it’s hard to see out of the rear window when the top is up. Act as if you know nothing about the vehicle when you begin. This gives you an unbiased opinion on the car.
You Don’t Have to Buy the First Car
When you meet the car salesperson, tell him or her you plan to test drive several models as you check out used cars for sale. Make sure to drive different vehicles too. In other words, don’t drive a green, red, and blue car of the same make and model. Try out a two-door, four-door, and maybe check out an SUV or station wagon. You never know what you’ll like until you drive it.
Look Under the Hood
Check out the motor before you drive and look for signs of oil or coolant leaks. You want to see a clean engine compartment but not spotless. If it’s too clean, this could mean they’re hiding something. Notice any unusual odors too.
Take Your Time
Take as long as you need to test drive used cars for sale. Pull into parking lots to see how the car handles while parking. Don’t let anyone hurry you so that you can make the right decision.
